    Meet your instructor: Timbaland, producer of 40 Greatest Hits for Artists from Jay-Z to Missy Elliott and Justin Timberlake. In the first lesson, Tim shows you how to create an entire track using only voice and microphone.
  2. Studio Session: Creating a Beatbox Beat
    Step into the studio to see the improvisation and creative response of the work. Tim teaches you how to create a beatbox song, starting with the loop he created in the first lesson, adding harmony, melody and texture.
  3. Building Beats: Tim’s Process
    It’s important to create a workflow that serves your personal creativity. Tim tells you about his digital equipment fleet and reveals the process of identifying the sounds he uses in his music.
  4. Beat creation: warm up
    Collaborating with producers and engineers is a key part of Tim’s process. In this chapter, Tim shares how he shares music with his team to inspire them to be creative.
  5. Song is born: “Dirt Off Your Shoulder”
    Tim recalls how he created the backing track for Jay-Z’s hit “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” and explains how to make complex textures from simple elements.

    Join the team in the studio and Tim’s co-producers Fede Vindver and Angel Lopez teach you how to capture your signature sound in samples using effects and plugins.
  10. Beat Making: Breakdown
    Tim thinks that contrast from the first to the last beat is necessary to maintain interest in a song. Here he shows how to create this contrast without changing the song’s chord progression.
  11. Birth of a song: “Gossip Folks”
    Timbaland’s partnership with Missy Elliott is active and iconic. Here Tim talks about how they worked together to create their hits and shows how vintage samples can take rhythm to the next level.
  12. Making a beat: adding a top line
    With the help of New City’s vocalist Adrian Mitchell, Tim shows you the most important step in making a hit – creating a vocal melody and sharing his philosophy in the lyrics.

    Tim, Static Major and Aaliyah had less than 24 hours to write “Are You That Somebody?” In this tutorial, Tim explains how they did it. He also explains artful production techniques for turning good songs into great songs.
